‘Natured Kids’
Junior Landcare sessions. Children 4-14 years old.
We aim to inspire lifelong connections with and care for nature via outdoor play, environmental exploration and education in our local community.
We have an exciting venue for our ‘Natured Kids’ Junior Landcare sessions during five weeks of ‘Beach School’, term 3 in 2020. Held at a local coastal location over 5 weeks in Mt.Eliza, become a ‘friend’ of Williams Road environmental beach group.

WEEK ONE
Tuesday August 11th.
Familiarisation with this special space as a place for deep learning. Share a ‘Welcome to Country message from a descendent of the local Boon Wurrung people. Learn about the cultural significance of this space to our Aboriginal people. Observe historic Aboriginal Middens at Canadian bay Cove. Discover how our first Australians used plants, insects and animals for bush tucker and medicine. Create string using natural materials and traditional methods, explore the multiple uses of this ancient technology.
WEEK TWO
Tuesday August 18th.
Come on a seashell scramble, explore the rock pools and learn the role of these special treasures. Unravel jellyfish myths and discover amazing sea creatures, assist our very special Port Phillip Bay Keeper. The observations we encounter will be documented as research for the current local citizen science ‘seashell survey’.
WEEK THREE
Tuesday August 25th.
Contribute to a beach cleanup, guided by a local hero and recipient of an ‘Australian of the year’ award. Help Victoria’s marine emblem, the weedy sea dragon and other marine creatures living in and around the bay. Construct a group art sculpture using the flotsam and jetsam we find.
WEEK FOUR
Tuesday 1st September
Learn from the local green team how plants are life giving! Experience being a natural reserve ranger for the morning. Plant habitat for swamp skinks in the beach dunes, help create a haven for our native birds, animals and insects. Discover how plants help us. Each family receives a fauna attracting indigenous plant to take home.
WEEK FIVE
Tuesday 8th September
Learn how to help the plight of our little threatened ‘Hooded Plover’. Be part of a local ‘Bird life Australia’ beach nesting birds project. Make a colourful kite to fly along the beach, draw your favorite beach nesting bird on your kite to decorate, all materials provided. Session concludes by finding our feathered friends, on a ‘bird watching walk’ along coastal bush land using a complimentary set of take home binoculars

the Dame Phyllis Frost award from KVB for facilitating outdoor environmental activities that educate and empower young people.
Our commitment
Family fees purchase equipment and pay our membership, insurance and association fees with different community environmental groups. Our activities in the natural environment are our commitment to improving green spaces in our local community. Our Junior Landcare Group is a social enterprise and NFP. We link volunteers with environmental community groups.
